Moment. Une Revue de Photo

Work from Robert Rutoed's series "grayscales" is featured in the latest issue of the Peruvian based photography magazine "Moment. Une Revue de Photo".

Published in Cusco, Peru, the photography magazine "Moment. Une Revue de Photo" has reached its sixth edition. Directed from the United States by photographer Vicente Revilla and edited by Mario Guevara it is distributed in the city of Cusco as well as in Lima, but mostly the magazine spreads in New York. The topic of the latest issue is "Architecture" and shows b&w photographs by Peruvian and international artists: Oswaldo Macedo, Jeff Demetriou, Robert Rutoed, Angel Amy Moreno, Leo Theinert, Luke Mitchell and Senta Sundberg.

"Moment. Une Revue de Photo" is a photography magazine created by Borough of Manhattan Community College Library faculty member, Vicente Revilla. The magazine is a collaboration of CUNY faculty, as well as colleagues from around the world. Six issues of Moment have been published over the past four years. Each issue of text and black and white photographs has been devoted to a single theme. The sixth issue is focused on architectural photography. Gustavo León Vivanco introduces this issue, in Spanish and English, by arguing that this subfield is “one of the most complex specialities.”

The world is neither black nor white. Rather, it is a sea of nuances and shades, a persistent tension between light and dark, on the edge and rich in contrasts. Over the span of ten years, the photographer Robert Rutoed has translated details of our reality into fine shades of grey. He transports us into a world of black-and-white, where the aesthetic of resistance and pure emotion are often separated by a mere slice of shadow. His eye is always ready for the moment at hand, always ready to uncover and explore the unexpected facets of the reality. These 77 photographs, taken between 1978-1988 and published for the first time in book form, are accompanied by the photographer’s own short and absurd texts.

BOOKS

“Subjective visions of architecture, the city and its people enrich this issue of Moment. Each photographic discourse takes specific elements of our environment to show the tectonics of the materials – for example, the details, backlights and textures in the photography of Oswald Macedo – and scale, which, in the frames of Hans Neumann and Robert Rutoed, is utilized in a unique way to stamp their photos with personality.”
