The world is neither black nor white. Rather, it is a sea of nuances and shades, a persistent tension between light and dark, on the edge and rich in contrasts. Over the span of ten years, the photographer Robert Rutoed has translated details of our reality into fine shades of grey. He transports us into a world of black-and-white, where the aesthetic of resistance and pure emotion are often separated by a mere slice of shadow. His eye is always ready for the moment at hand, always ready to uncover and explore the unexpected facets of the reality.

These 77 photographs, taken between 1978-1988 and published for the first time in book form, are accompanied by the photographer’s own short and absurd texts.

If less is more, maybe nothing is everything. (Rem Koolhaas)

Is there a second chance for the immediacy of the moment? There is – in fact, not more or less, but according to the motto: Less is more! Robert Rutoed created a bizarre (visual) archive within the scope of this photo project. Every image relates a very personal story and is history.

"In Robert Rutoed‘s style there is an unusual colourful clarity of simplicity that doesn‘t fog the importance of the moment. What‘s important is the preserving of the split second of the now before it is gone for ever!" (Diarikom)
